Ford A/C testing
Hello, guys: I've got an '88 F-250 with A/C & when I turn it on, the clutch won't engage. I found the pressure switch & disconnected it & used a jumper wire to by-pass the switch & the compressor clutch kicked in. Now my question--how do I test the switch to see if it's faulty or check the refrigerant pressure to see if that's the problem ?? Any ideas ?? Thanks, guys !!

It sounds like you don't have an a/c gauge of any sort so just by a new switch which should be around $10-$15, rather than $60 or more for R-12 gauges & 134a gauges go at least $100 for generic ones.After all, if it is low on freon,it could be the switch that leaked it out or is part of the leaks you have,so replacing it is gonna happen sooner or later.

Dewy: You didn't say what you're driving but if it's a Ford pick-up, the switch should be located on a black canister about 4" across & 7"-8" tall on the pass. side close to the firewall.
