Did you ever try jiggling the ignition switch? My 1980 f-150 does the same thing, and if I turn the ignition switch back a forth a little, the signals start working. I guess its worn out inside. Give it a shot!
I would try changing the switch. They are cheap. I would go with a heavy duty switch. This would be atot easier to do first than trying to track down a short.
Rollinthunder, I actually did replace the ignition switch in mine already, and it didnt fix the problem. I'm guessing its not the switch itself, but the housing it slides into. I dont know that the rest of that could be replaced, seems like its all part of the column. Any suggestions?
Sorry on the last message on your problem. I ment to say change the flasher switch under your dash on your fuse block. Sorry for the mistake. If this soesn't work when it acts up look to see if both the rear and front lights come on. You might not have a good enough contection where the bulb goes into the socket. I live in the central plains and I know that severe cold can cause things not to work. I had a problem on my Bronco of headlight not coming on then would pop on when she felt like it. Also I lost the amber lights on the fender. I took them out and found that they had white corriosion built up on them. Cleaned the contacts. seemed to have done the trick
