HELP ME! This thing has me baffled! I have been having an intermittant shuttering vibration coming from the rear of my truck, It is not speed specific I think, I seems like it comes and I keep driving and then it goes away, Its bad enough it will scare the crap out of you and make you think a wheel is falling off, I checked the wheel bearings they seem to feel fine, I also retorqued the bearing things as well. Torqued to 60ftlb and backed off 7 clicks. Could the bearings be going bad? or is this tranny or driveshaft? It does not go away when put into neural.
Take a real close look at your tires, when tread separation starts it will only be felt on certain road conditions until it gets real bad, I have learned this from experience. Look for any bulging in the side wall of tread face of places were the tread is not straight.
Not sure what bearing things you are talking about but have you checked for free play in the driveshaft center support bearing?
The bearing things are these ratcheting nuts in a cup type thing. You use a 4 pronged bearing socket and you tighten, cool thing is they ratchet. They are used to tighten the rear wheel bearings.
