Ok, so I just got back from towing a boat behind my new truck. I used the 4x4 to get the boat out and got home fine. The next day, i got in my truck and it has this whie that sounds like a weedeater under the truck. It's not all the time, but it is pretty loud and has me worried. Any Ideas?
teuton, First thing I would do is to move it in and out of 4x4 several times. After back in 2 wheel drive, put it in reverse and back up 25 feet or so this may release your hub if it is stuck. Then proceed to the Ford Service Department if the noise still exists. If it is very far you may want to have them tow it in.Good Luck!
If it continues after following the above noted advice:
1) take it immediately to the Ford dealer
2) do a search in this forum for rear end whining
3) call your doctor, get a 36,000 mile prescription for Xanax
I got the rear end whine as well. 5 gearsets and still doing it... I told my lawyer maybe Ford ought to just give me some Prozac or something. Maybe Xanax would be a better choice...
i had the rear end whine @ 45mph and above. my dealer told me that the ring and pinion gears were cut a fraction to long and the didn't mesh together completely, causing the whine. had mine fixed 2 months ago, smooth and QUIET. good luck
Garman - what was the turn-around time for the rear end fix? I put mine in the shop 12 days ago and it still isn't repaired yet. They called me after 5 days to tell me the ring and pinion gear set was on order. Last week, they called to tell me parts should be in by Thursday, 6/16. As of today, I still haven't heard back from the dealer.
The dealer is providing a rental (an '05 F150 Screw) so I'm being patient. I'm just curious how long this repair should take once they have parts in hand.
my wifes 04 is 7months old with 40000 kms on it and its taken 3 wks to get the parts shes a cheif does lots of traveling took to dealer no problem or questions asked,my 00 has same problem with 154000 kms on it took in ordered wrong parts[7700 series]goes in next week thank goodness for warrantys,my trucks lead hard lifes put they sure hold up
False alarm on mine. It ended up being a front hub that engaged in 4x4 but didn't disengage all the way. It sounded really bad, as you can imagine, but they just replaced the entire hub/bearing and I'm back on the road.
yesterday I was driving for a while and I heard a whine. When I let off the gas it got a little quiet, but when i hit the gas it came right back to the same tone. A little bit of a high pitch. Is this gear whine?
HEY RCKNRBN, my dealer checked my rear end for the whine, they said it would be about 3 to 4 weeks for parts, gave me my truck back, called me about 3 weeks later, i dropped my truck off on a friday after work, they were done by 2pm the next day. it has been perfect ever since. i'm sorry some of the other guys are not having the same luck as me. good luck, garman
Called dealer late this afternoon, two weeks to the day since I brought them my truck. Service advisor told me he was "just getting ready" to call me to tell me that the parts won't be shipped until 7/8/05! Huh? Was told last week that parts were on the way.
However, based on the input from people posting on this site, I felt sure it would take about 3-4 weeks for the parts to come in. I was a little surprised when the shop originally told me the ring/pinion gears would there in about 2 days.
Picking it up tomorrow (after a PCM reflash and having a couple of other minor things done). Will post an update in a couple of weeks when (if?) the parts come in.
