I need to remove the emissions stuff. Oklahoma doesn't have the tests or anything. I am going to be getting a intake/carb very soon and need to know what all removing emissions consists of. The thing I am trying to figure out how to cap off though mostly is the things on the back of my heads. What do I do about them beings I can hardly see them much less get to them? So could someone who has done this please chime in and fill me in?
A little more info on what you're workin on would be great
A bone stock 1984 302. It is in the F-150 Flareside seen in my gallery. What else would you like to know? Id be willing to do anything if someone can just help me or tell me how to get rid of this emissions bull....
You shouldn't have very much for emissions stuff...probably a basic EGR system, thermactor system, and cat.
I don't know enough about that particular model to give details. I'm sure someone else here can help further.
Well it had a cat, which is long gone. It has the air pump or whatever and all kinds of hoses going everywhere..I know to get rid of most of it..Just rip it off..But I dont know what I need to do to plug the things onto the back of each head. That is where I am stumped.
I'm from Oklahoma too, here's what I used to plug the back of my heads, it may sound funny but I used two of my old spark plugs with the ceramic part broken off and it worked great. I would remove the air pump, plug the heads and make sure to plug off all vacuum lines that are associated with the emissions equipment and call it good. I did this on an early 80's model 302 and had no issues whatsoever.

Alright great! Thanks! Oh does the spark plug screw into the back of the head or just go in the hose that comes out of the head/s?
Also do you know of anyway that I can move my alternator up to where my smog pump is, I hate that my alternator is way down there...Dumb but it bothers me.
Whereabouts in OK are you anyway? Anyway thanks for the help, I appreciate it a LOT!
PS, what kind of sparkplug or what was the plug off of? Aren't there several different sizes?
No problem and thanks, I'm in Ponca city. I don't know about moving the alternator but as far as the spark plugs as "plugs" I just used some old Autolite #25's that are a small sized plug and unbolted the crossover pipe behind the heads and screwed the sparkplugs directly into the back of the cylinder heads. Good luck and if you have any more Q's feel free to ask.

Wow,I lived in Ponca up until the great Conocophillips Merger...Alright thanks for the help. I really appreciate it. Yeah my dad got transfered in the merger. Anyway thanks a lot. Im sure there will be more questions I might have once I tear into but I do not have anymore right now.
Did you go to the Draggin grand a few weekends back?
ah..hmm ok..Well we're probably talking about the same thing. They just have a allen head and have a allen thing built into so it sits flush in back of block and it is like a bolt..Hard to explain.
