Perfection ends
New Nov-04 F350 Lariat DW LB CC 3.73 no mods. I posted at 6000 km(canada) that my truck had never been to the shop. First trip with my 5ver from Ontario to Nova Scotia dist. of 2000 km. I am pleased with the IBC. Realize now what people mean when they say the TOW/Haul shifting is a little rough. Forgot the fact that the tow haul also acts like a downhill brake. Scared me half to death coming down a moderate grade and engine reving up to 3200RPM. Also the electric fan engaging while climbing. Made a high pitch roaring noise until I guess the engine temp. came down. All normal things when hauling I guess. I got to my son in laws in Nova Scotia and parked in his back yard, unhooked and left the truck till Monday. On the way to town Monday afternoon I heard this droning noise coming from the front end.Took it to the dealer Tues. am and after a test drive they determined the left front wheel bearing was gone. Ordered a new one and went over Wed. got a phone call a hour later. We have bad news, you need a complete new rotor and maybe a tie rod end. Plus we ordered the wrong part in the first place. Also we dont have those parts in Canada and we have them in 3-4 days from the US if you are lucky. Asked for a loaner Wed. No loaners,no provisions for loaners. Service manager said only a loaner if I had ext. warranty. I lease my truck I dont need extended warranty?? Thursday am after getting phone runa round Manger now tells me under Ford Transportation Assistance Plan I can rent a car for 3 days and be reimbursed. 3 days from opening work order. Not much good to me now. Also I wanted them to fix it ASAP so I could drive it a while before we left. I guess I would have felt better that it would get me home. If any have had a wheel bearing go at these low mileages let me know and for what reason if any causes it.

Did I miss something? New motor???
That's some disturbing news about the wheel bearing, rotor and tie rod ends.
Tinyone, Sorry for your trouble but I hope, for my sake, that this was an exception to the rule. I have been under the impression that the Super Duty front end was pretty solid. That is an 05 you have correct?

Yes 05 12000kms. New ROTOR not a motor (Hopefully). We are now sitting in Truro NS waiting to get fixed up and continue our trip. Were going to Cape Breton, PEI and then a week going home via Maine,Vermont NH and NY. I have a great service manger in NIAGARA FALLS. I called him re this problem. He was very surprised. He was wondering if they damaged it trying to service it. He said only way to damage it that bad would be for the bearing to wear into the rotor. Hope the spindle is not scored.

2 days after I posted. I got a call from the dealer. They received the parts from the US and truck was fixed Friday afternoon. I guess it just needed the inside bearings and hub. Dealer said he had to order the complete unit to get what he needed to fix it?? I dont know or care. I know it got fixed and works fine. Tech told me somehow water got into the sealed bearing and burnt them up. He had never seen this happen on a new vehicle. Drove it 1500 miles since that date and all is well.

I had a bearing fail at 4,000 miles. My feeling on it was that a bearing failed not Ford. It can happen unfortunately. Maybe the bearing and cup was not seated correctly or when it was put together the grease was not pushed into it correctly. You never know but I am glad to hear they got you back on the road.
