Im in the same situation as the original poster, i have a ton of money to sink into a system but im just concerned about airspace. Will two JL 10" W7's fit into a CC F350 without much modification?
Im a musician, so i think thats where i get my audiophile tendencies...
A ton of money to you may not be the same as a ton of money to me. What does that mean exactly in real $$$$? If you are a true audiophile, a ton of money might be $20,000, or it could just be $1000. In any case w7s hardly fit anything without some mods.
i've spent more than 20k on my home audio system.. not that much more but still.
I dont have a problem spending extra dough to get a really well ballanced system for my truck. What mods would need to be done to fit a quality sub like the W7?

I'm not at all familiar with the interior of your truck, so anything I say will be a generalization. Those subs have a mounting depth of 8 inches and need about 1.25 cubic feet of air space each in a sealed enclosure. The sub itself is .09 cubic feet, so you need a gross volume of 1.34 or so. This is JL's figure, not mine. An enclosure for this sub should probably be made of 1" MDF, but even if you were to use 3/4", you are looking at a MINIMUM of 10 1/2" deep in order to get about 9" depth inside the box. With that minimum you will need length and width of about 17 1/2" outside to get 16" inside. Internal volume of 16"x16"x9"=2304 cubic inches, exactly 1.33 cubic feet. Multiply that by two and you can see where this is headed. I could put two of these in my '97 Supercab, but only with a seat lift of about 6 inches. If you were to have substantial space behind your back seats, maybe this install would be a breeze. I'm not sure. Also, they need mucho power, so amps need to be accounted for as well.
With that kind of money, i would look into getting something like a brahma, RE XXX *personal favorite*, or a Treo. With the size you are looking at i would go with a XXX 8" or 10". And get a hifonics or planet audio amp, running 1ohm, about 1200watts RMS to push 2 of them. Then get a new alternator and put a redtop battery upfront. You should be close to your limit, granted besides the main parts, subs, amps, alt and what not look at spending about $200 on good wiring to run your setup. I work at best buy and listen to rockford, alpine, sony, and eclipse all day long, and i can tell you, if you have a really nice setup at home, those just dont cut it.
ForTiLLiaN- I agree with your stance on 'name brand' car audio stuff. in my experience the name brand stuff is very over priced for the sound quality you receive... although i think eclipse decks are very nice quality. I've heard of planet audio, and resonant engineering before so i'll definitely have to piece something together with their products. Do you have any recommendations for component speakers, any particular brands that seem to jump out as superior to others. You seem to really know your stuff.
As far as redally good stuff with component series, look at Focal Audio, Diamond Audio, Oz Audio, Hafler, KEF.. there's a few more that are good. But those are quite pricey.
