I have discovered that this gasket is the cause of my vacuum leak on my 302. Are there any tricks or tips to replacing the intake plenum gasket. Will I need to replace other gaskets? (throttle body, etc.) I figure I'll clean the crud out of the throttle body and plenum at the same time. From the manual description it seems like a fairly straightforward repair but any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Herby
If you leave the upper intake manifold and throttle together and clean them as one piece, you won't need to replace the throttle body gasket. Just remove all the vacuum lines and throttle cable and i think there's a coolant line going through the throttle that needs to come off, and take the whole damn thing off the top of the engine and spray throttle cleaner through the whole thing from both sides and rinse it all out. Scrub well, too!!
If you haven't noticed, you will need a Torx socket for the one upper intake manifold bolt that is in the middle, passenger side of engine. Other than that, its pretty straightforward.
Thanks for all the info. I did notice the inside bolt is a Torx. I was planning to add a Phenolic Plenum Spacer too but couldn't find one local in stock and I want to get it fixed this weekend. Thanks for the suggestion of replacing the valve cover gaskets too. Typical Ford problem and a pain unless you remove the plenum.
Thanks again,
