NP435 clutch problems
Well as luck would have it my latest mudding adventure led to a smoking clutch. I was pulling a Rubicon of of the mud with my 78 F150 when my clutch just started smoking. I wasn't on the pedal at all just on the gas ripping away. I stopped after seeing and smelling all the smoke and let her cool down a bit then after I tried to go again there was nothing. I haven't noticed any slipping or anything out of the ordinary from the clutch so I am kind of amazed here. Now I can get it to barely move if reved up then it will slowly catch and go. I know this is probably going to lead to replacing the clutch but I was wondering if maybe it could just be out of adjustment? The less money I spend the happier the wife will be. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I doubt it's an adjustment problem. Sounds like the pressure plate was weak, and couldn't take the strain. Which is usually the case when your off the pedal and you let the smoke out her. You may want to up grade to a clutch with a bit more clamping power if your gonna be tugging stuff out of the mud. This is why they make winches
