chirping serpentine belt?

anyone have any idea of how to solve the problem of eliminating the chirping?

background: i have a 2003 f-150 and i assume the chirping is coming from the belt. it seems it only happens when it's raining or damp, but on rainy days it's very annoying?

anyone experience this and how did u solve this problem. thanks, would appreciate any info.

Is it under hard acceleration shift from 1st to second? if so, thats normal, almost all 5.4 f150's do that, i believe.

Or is this a constant chirping? If so, then i would think idler puller. Have you opened the hood and tried to locate where its coming from?

captain, it's a constant chirping. i haven't opened the hood and attempted to isolate the cause. i'll do that and focus on the idler puller. thanks and i'll post what i find.

Check the tensioner and its corisponding pully. I had this problem with a 91 302 F-150. I thought it was something else so I would spray wd40 on a part near the belt and the chirp would go away. Came to find out my overspray would hit the belt and stop the noise so I changed the belt and the noise came back several months later so I changed the tensioner and the noised stayed away along with another new belt. This at age 17 tought me that trouble shooting can be challenging but very educational. Now if I can only learn how to spell and used good grammer.

Yea, what is the deal with that anyways has anyone figured it out???

I have a 5.4 in my truck and every time I put my foot to the floor on 1-2 shifts I get this annoying, embassaring, and concerning squeek. Everyone can hear it because I have heard other F-150's froma distance.

What in the world is it!?!

Mine has never done this, and I stomp on the gas on a regular basis
Might be the belt has slightly stretched or the tensioner is slightly worn?

I went through this problem with my 99 sable. Changed the pully on the tensioner, the water pump and it ended up being the darn belt. It had a glazing on it. I read that if you take sand paper to the glazed part that might help.

guys, thanks for the replies and torque1st really appreciate the detailed info. yep, still chirps, but only when it's wet out. once the moisture, dampness or rain stops the chirping stops.

i'll attempt the suggestions outlined and hope it takes care of the problem.

Just a simple belt replacement, trust me my truck would squeel when it was wet outside and under hard shifting, went with a gatorback belt and bang, all cleared up.

Bought my F-150 new in May 2000, and around the 1st winter in New England, ONLY WHEN IT WAS DAMP or VERY HUMID, the belt would squeal. Dealer removed belt and spun everything, said it was the tensioner. Didn't do it. Replaced the alternater, NOPE! Replaced a pulley, NO again!

Ended up being the belt. Well, 4 yrs later, it's doing it again - only when it's wet or humid.

Belt time again.

4 years is a long time for a belt.

Just remember that if the belt is making noise it has been slipping and polishing the pulleys. Some surface prep will help the new belt. Humidity promotes condensation on the belt and pulleys which acts as a lubricant causing the belt to slip worse. Think of it as giving you some advance warning to get the belt replaced.

Right, considering my truck is a daily driver and gets "pushed" at least 1 way of my commute to work. Every night it hits 105 for about 3 minutes or so.

I would buy another one in a heartbeat.

Although, as of yesterday it is experiencing its 1st engine trouble.

Going to start new post "Check Engine Soon & Running Rough"
