Question How do I get my windshield clean?

Alright folks I've tried everything I can think of, all the major cleaners, newspaper, paper towels, lint free cloths, shammy's, and steel wool. And still the darn thing continues to have horrible streaks. I can get the winshield on my beat-up, rock crawling, '87 Samurai cleaner than this '04 Superduty. What am I doing wrong?

i've heard pour coca cola or pepsi on the whole windshield..then wash it off immediately with a water hose...never tried it...but it might work..

I always use a vinegar/water mixture, wiping off with newspapers.

Okay I tried the vinegar/water with a newspaper chaser and it worked pretty good. Thank You. I did however learn two things.

1. Don't ever put a vinegar/water mixture (mostly vinegar) on the inside of a hot winshield without all the doors open. Unless of course your a hippie practicing for your next tear gassing. Wow! That wasn't fun.

2. In using the newspaper I found-out that I missed a huge sale on ammo at Big 5 last week. No biggie they'll have another one.

I'll wait until the next time I'm at the carwash to try the Pepsi idea. Seems like that one could get a little messy. I'll post back with the results when I do.

Bon-Ami. It is recommended in GM owners manuals. Get it at older hardware stores if it is not at your local supermarket.

You didn't say what is on it.

I use Lacquer thinner to get stubborn things off glass.

There was nothing out of the ordinary on it that I know of. It has just always had the streaks. I finally just ran out of ideas to get the streaks out. I wash it at a normal carwash using whatever soap they use in the sprayer. To the best of my knowledge nothing else has been put on it. Maybe something the dealer used when doing the pre-delivery prep? But it's been over a year since I took delivery. Although I still can't get whatever they put on the dash off.

Are the streaks on the inside or outside? Unfortunately, new vehicles have so much plastic inside that emit vapors, which turns into a film on the glass. It stops- eventually.

If it's on the outside, try replacing your wiper blades. You may have picked up something while driving, and the wipers may be contaminated. They may be re-depositing the film on the windshield each time you use them. Just make sure you clean the windshield thoroughly just BEFORE you replace the blades.

It's on both the inside and outside. I thought the same thing about the wiper's, but changing them did no good. It's as though there is a coat of oil on the inside and outside. And no matter how much I clean it, it just won't go away. There is also a lot of pit marks in the windshield that have been there since day one.

have you tried rain-x yet? I know it's not a 'cleaner', but it dries on in a wax form, and rubs off. This might be adhesive enough to pull off whatever it is that's sticking to your windshield. just a thought...

It's been my experience that rain-x leaves a visible "film" after rubbing it off. Not really streaks, just looks a little different, kinda "greasy"

I have not had any problems with Rain-X if applied according to directions.

Stoner's 'Invisable Glass' and a mico-fiber towel. Works great.
