I have a 1990 ford bronco w/ a 5.8l. I have a problem with throttle response. Sometimes, when I step on the gas, I only have to step on the gas half way for the transmission to shift and other times I have to press the gas all the way to the floor to make it shift. Also, sometimes the gas is harder to press and other times the gas pedal needs little pressure. I have no idea what it could be. I already put another post up that explains the trouble I have been having with engine performance. I have checked for computer codes, and nothing. Any suggestions would be helpful.
i have a 90 fs eddie bauer and i had.......have the same problem. sometimes you only have to push the pedal down half way and the od kicks in. other times........especially on the highway, you have to pop the pedal to the floor for it to kick in. I had a problem with the truck not shifting into third and after numerous hours.....they determined it to be the neutral safety switch. they replaced it and it did infact solve the problem. I noticed that right after that , i never had to push the pedal to the floor anymore. This was about 8 months ago. Just in the past couple weeks i noticed i was back to having to floor it every once in a while to kick it in again. I don't have the time and money to invest to have it looked at again. It's really not that huge of a deal right now, but if you end up finding the problem , let me know. Thanks.
Blue ,
Sounds like you have a cable problem ? Follow it from the gas pedal to the throttle body and down to the transmission . Either its wore out or is binding on something under the hood . Undo the cables from the throttle body and move them by hand to see if they move freely . If you have cruise control , make sure that cable is installed properly and isnt holding things in a bind . Its all a fairly simply setup so finding the problem just requires some careful inspection .
