would it be a bad idea to just pick up the heavy duty 427 push rods they dsc offers for $68 vs the regular 427 pushrods for $45

Not really, no. I was off doing other things.

I got the regular ones from DSC and they work fine. If you're ever going to go with a bigger cam, or just want stronger pushrods than I've got, get the HD ones.

If you have done any head work or block decking you may want to get pushrod checkers first from Crane. I figured going with adjustable would make up any differences in the head work but I found while looking for another problem that when I set my lifter preload the pushrods were bottoming on the rockers not the ball of the adjuster. I couldnt see that until I had the rockers off and saw the marks on them. I was using the stock length from DSC with his roller rockers. When I checked them with the checkers the length was exactly 9 inches. I guess the adjusters can't make up that much.

I ordered the hd ones from dsc. I was worried about his quality but should have been worried about summit.

I got my headers, rpm intake, valve spring, big block ford book, crane 343942 cam andlifter kit in today. as some might remember ups damaged my piston rings and lost some of my arp rod bolts. well this time my 941 cam and spring were just thrown in the box and shipped. I was mad very very mad. My first clue that something was wrong when i opened the box and the cam shaft in two parts. yes two parts broke half into.

Holy Chit! How do you break a friggin' camshaft. You almost have to drive a truck over it. Sounds like you got some of my luck.....

Hang in there.

I dropped my old one off a table that is about 4.5 feet off the ground on to a cement floor (it got bumped not meaning to) and it said ting bang slam and that was it. It did not break. gtex that was my thought how in the hell do you break something like that? Summit is going to file another claim with UPS about this one. They are over nighting me a new cam and lifter kit today.

i am sure that a cam is harden steel and i know that it is more brittle when it is hardened, but still.

I work in a refinery and I saw a quote the other day in one of our control rooms that has now become my shop motto:

"We're moving backwards, but we're making good progress"

It helps me to feel good about myself as I reinstall something for the third time.

That's a shame about UPS. My delivery guy has carried so many parts he feels like part of the project. He was checking out my pickup the other day and said, "I remember when I delivered those headers". Cool guy.

Camshafts are made from a hardened steel and, if hit in the right place, can snap in two very easily. I learnt this from my auto shop teacher back in the day. He even gave us an example....had a camshaft in his hands while he was teaching us and then drops it on the concrete floor and SNAP! Camshaft became no good!

It's never happen to me either, but I would consider yourselves lucky.

this guy just tossed the parts out the truck when he passed by i guess.

55mph, 45 mph, 35mph, 30mph thats slow enough. i will just toss them out the door here. lets see if i can hit the mail box for 500 bonus points, and 100 for every time the box flips.

FWIW, I got my stuff from Jegs, and it came in good condition, each component packaged in it's box from Crane, in very good condition. Keep this in mind...

Oh and mswift... On second thought, I'm not even going there.

Oh man, how you handle this may have repercussions on the rest of your life. Good luck with that. or it may simply have percussions upon your head :-)
