Well as of last night I’m committed to chopping the top, I cut the top off, now it’s just a matter of lowering a few inches and piecing it back together with parts from my donor cab. That first cut sure took me while to start.
I know the feeling. I didn't chop the top of my panel, I just replaced the entire top from a donor. After you make that first cut it's like diving in a pool of cold water, you made the leap and there's no stopping
yeah buddy!! keep us posted. I had a party at my house one night and some of my friends ''disappeared'' during the evening, the next morning the top was marked and taped off so I went ahead and chopped it, turned out great
I know the feeling. Once you make that cut, you know there's no going back now. When I started whacking my hood up, I remember asking myself "do I really know what I'm doing here?". I just figured that if I really screwed it up, I'd get another hood.
But if you screw up a chop...get another cab? Yikes!
No...nothing so adventuresome. Although you inspire me regularly, you don't make me crazy yet. You are the pie-cutting daredevil. I just did major surgery for hood patch panels. There's an album in my gallery about it.
Randy, I checked your album and NOW I remember the pics. It looks like I'm going to have to do the same corner that you did. It was repaired sometime in the past and now that I have installed my front hinges the contour on the front of the hood is off. Just another speedbump on the road to Knoxville '06
Mike,
Good Luck, stay calm and post LOTS OF PICS!!! Some of us like to live vicariously through you folks that actually make time to work on your trucks!
I'll keep yas posted, and I will be posting pics soon,
I've had it taped off and measured for a while, and my wife gave me a kick by saying, "what are ya waiting for, just do it" so I did..... have welder will geter done
Thanks
Mike
I guess if you've had it taped off for awhile that means the important part of the project is done. The part where you sit around with a few buddies and one or two (6 packs, cases, 30 packs???) beers and try and work it all out in your mind.
My wife refers to this as wasting time and procrastinating....LOL...some women jsut don't understand the complexities of on old truck project
I whole-heartedly agree!! A good woman sure makes the truck project go smoother. My lovely lady is under the false assumption that I can do anything. When I start hemmin and hawing and dragging my feet worrying about some part or how to do something I can always count on her to say something like mt54's wife....just do it, or what are you waiting for, or some other little thing that puts my butt back in gear.
She does get a little ticked now and then because her VW is on the back burner....lol
