I noticed the other day that on the efi 300's that there are two manifolds both three into one, and then there are two pipes that go into this small box with a heat shield on it and then it goes into a normal looking catalic converter. From after the manifolds to the beginning of the muffler it's all one piece. Does anybody know what the first box is on a 300 and is there any way of bypassing this for more power and flow?
I also replaced the muffler with a flowmaster 40 series and before i put it on I started it up without a muffler and it was very quiet it sounds like a lot of restriction is taking place, I was wondering what that box is thats what i thinkk is making it quiet.
I have a regular stock exhaust setup, only i replaced the big stock muffler with a dynomax "super turbo" muffler. It's pretty quiet, but you can hear it. has a nice rumble at idle and sounds good throughout the rpm range. sounds kinda like a straight piped cummins, only way quieter.
I have a built 300 I just put in, and I already have a newer exhaust system left over from my V8 I just took out to put this in. It is dual pipes/Flowmasters. Would this sound better than a 3-4" Diesel Exhuast straight piped? By the way I like the Straight piped Cummins sound.
My Muffler Is Off A 2001 Chevy Trailblazer It Sounds Like My Friends 5.0 Mustang With Flowmaster 50 Series I Like In Fact We Ar Working On Doing A Second My Friend Works At A Gm Dealership And Gets These Mufflers All The Time People Dont Like The Sound They Make I Think Were Gonna Duel It Out.
yes, getting a v8 sound is impossible, i took the second cat out ran back one 2.5" pipe to the front of the rear end, single glasspack, split into two tailpipes, at a 45deg. angle out the sides, i personally think it sounds good, i once had a manager of a jiffy lube compliment on how good my 302 idled, i had to tell him it was only a I6, he was surprised, if neeed be i can get some pics!
I agree with optikal illushun, I have 2 and a half inch straight pipe from the cat all the way to the back. Sounds like Dodge Cummings and it has much more hill climing power; just more power in general.
mitch18, I do have 2 pipes from engine going into what I thought is a collector box, then a cat after that, then the straight pipe. 300 EFI 1987 F150 with C-6
