Hey guys, ya'll have always been good at giving me suggestions, so I figure I'll ask even though this one might be hard to diagnose if you can't see the truck. Recently I've been getting a whining sound coming from the engine at idle. I first noticed it yesterday when I was about to leave the house. The sound appears to be coming from the front of the engine although I have not been able to take a stethascope to it to be sure. My dad suggested alternator...anything other suggestions that I should look into? I plan on going to autozone or somewhere to ask one of them tomorrow after school. Thanks for any suggestions.
It was more just when the engine was idleing. Like I said though, it was kinda strange. I took it to autozone to see if they could help me diagnose the problem but the minute I got the guy out to listen to it, it stopped, so I can't really do anything unless it returns. He suggested however that the belt might be slipping or something like that. I'll post up if it returns and tell you what I find out.
it does not appear to change pitch with the change in RPM. Also, I noticed that if the truck it started cold this does not happen but if I start the truck about 5 minutes after I shut it off then the whine will start for a bit.
