I need some advice. I have a '70 F250. The body is bad (rust) but the engine is great. I bought the truck from a family friend and know the mileage to be original. It's a 360 with C6. The milage is only 75K. There was a camper on back for 30 years and it didn't get driven that much. It sat outside here in Wisconsin and got really rusty. I've driven it for the last 5 years and really got my money's worth. Front cab mounts are gone, and radiator core support is going. On the other hand, interior parts are extremely clean and near mint (like dash pad, seat, gauge cluster, arm rests, door panels, etc). I have a new (to me) '69 F250. I would like to sell the '70, but I don't know if I should sell it whole to someone as a strong driver that needs a good welding (not restored-just a solid work truck), or should I start stripping the good stuff to sell here or on e-bay? I hate to see that motor go to the boneyard, but I've got no way to pull and store it, and I don't think the demand is that great. Any thoughts or opinions?
you can always throw it out there for sale. I had a spare 69 with a bad engine that I took the grill and seat and a few other parts off of. I paid 500 for it and I think I sold it from these calssified for about 500. Just be honest about it's condition. However I do need a dash pad for for my 69 F 250...
Knight, You will have to disassemble it, may take several months longer, but you usually can make more parting one out, as long as you have good parts to offer.
After saying that, it can be a lot easier to sell it whole and not be bothered.
It's like anything else, do a little work and you'll get more money. I agree that you can probably get more selling it for parts, especially with the efficiencies of the internet (ebay). You can just about bet there is some sucker out there looking for the left-hand pea green flux-capacitor wiring harness holder bolt :-)
but in the end, you may have doubled or tripled your cash intake, but you're probably still stuck with an eye-sore collection of parts that now need to be hauled away. And, you put in a lot of time.
I wish I'd have taken the time to sell one of my projects for parts....I know it would have taken time, but I would have made much more money. It was a similar truck to yours. Lots of good parts, but rust on the body.
If it has power steering/disk brakes and other niceties, the frame makes an excellent swap for the gang in the 65-66 trucks (like me...). You can advertise it as a great donor frame and sell it for what you have into it probably.
