this will be for off road only what i want to know is what do i need to do this, will be swapping engine tranny & tansfer case from 79 f 250 into a 92 x with 4.0 push rod motor will also be putting both rearends from truck under x , the truck has 4 speed manual will be dumping that for c-6 or possibly will keep the 4 speed not sure yet depends on how much work is involved in doing the swap & witch way is easier thanks for any & all help
Secondly, why not just move the Xploder body over and call it good... I have not undertaken anything like this, but you will need to do some measuring regarding the transfer case and axles.
i figured that i was wondering about the electrical as far as the fab part of it i can handle that as im a welder i thought about doing it that way but wanted the extra flex i think the lighter duty x frame would give also would be easier to center the axles but anything on hooking up the electrical would be greatly appreciated , i dont know alot about FORDS but am really good on YOTAs as that is what i did wheel before i had to get rid of it (financial reasons) but again thanks for any help whether right wrong or somewhere in between
Well, the explorer is EFI, and probably has fancy electronics that go with it.
The pickup oin the other hand is carb'd, thus easier to wire.
While with some fabrication you can shove those bits in, the more common swap is a 5.0L out of a 89-92 mustang, which is EFI and uses "mass air", and the only electrical hassle you'd have is the one body connector on the firewall that goes to the fusebox, headlight switch, etc, to the 5.0L engine bay harness. You get both wiring diagrams and you can move pins around in one of the two connectors, to make things match correctly.
If you really like cutting, welding and fabricating, know that you can convince a 460 to fit.
also that 351 in your 79 is a 351m which is best left in that truck. even swaping over the axles that motor is way to heavy for that frame on the exploder. personally i would find another rig to mess with. just way to much involved.
i apreciate the input guys might just strip the body off the truck throw a cage on it & call it goodlike i said i did wheel a yota witch is a lot different than this but i have both vehicles & thought it would be cool to combine them maybe put some 38.5 swampers under it & play in the mud who knows
