am replacing bad waterpump on my 01. plan on doing a complete flush. can i replace with ext. life antifreeze or am i stook with the green? bought truck used this time last year so i dont know how old the pump is. i have 165,000 miles. have read somewhere that my year should keep with the green and monitor additive. thought i would get some input from you all. thanks in advance!!
I changed my 2000 from green to gold. Ford's position is that engines with green should stay with green, gold should stay with gold, but from what I've read over at TDS the only reason Ford hasn't approved the switch in 99-01 model years is because they are concerned about incomplete flushing of the systems and contamination of the gold with green coolant. There are several posts here and at The Deisel Stop explaining how to get a good flush of your system if you decide to make the switch.
I think 01 was the first year for the gold. However if you are going to do a complete flush, this would be the time to put the gold in.
2002 was actually the first year for the gold coolant. My service advisor told me the very same thing; green with green and so on. So I just got the green. next time I'll flush it out myself and go for the gold.
Can someone post how to flush out the system completely? I tried a search..
I have an 02 with the green stuff in there, i hope to god the owner before me used that additive to prevent pitting. Anyhoo, if someone can post a link explaining how to flush the system out i, as well as others, would appriciate it.
*edit, after going through a couple more pages I found it..
Save your self some time and money, just put in some Rotella diesel ready ELC. No pesky sca's, 600,000 mile service life with a 300,000 mile booster.
All for about $1.00 more a gallon at your local Napa. No other coolant is even on the same page, including G-05 or Fords gold stuff.
Evans is tested to 500k miles, no SCAs. Price is 89 for 4 gallons and delivery to me is 18 bucks.
NAPA sounds good, 600k and no delivery charge.
I think I'll drain my Ford Gold and do that at 50k.
Only because I want the best.
I'll change my dieselsite coolant filter at the same time, clean her all up.
Git 'er done Skeeter!
This is how I did mine LINK there are lots of ELC alternatives to the Zerex G05, Peak makes a FleetCharge that is very good, CAT ELC, and Fleetguard ELC like Rotella ELC are very good stuff also and International recomends Texeco ELC, all the ELC's come with the SCA added to them, you dont have to add anything to them. If you do the switch and have a coolant filter make sure you get the non charged filters instead of the pre charged ones.
