I have a 99 Ranger XLT w/2.5l 4 cyl 5 spd. Sometimes when I come to a stop and depress the clutch, the engine will rev up. Sometimes it will idle back down on its own, sometimes I have to let the clutch out until the rpms drop and then it will idle okay. At first I thought it was a sticky throttle. I even tried to lubricate the cable, but that didn't help. Besides,I think it would do it more often if that was the case. Any ideas??? Les
My problem is not like Hawki's but is like the one described in the article. But i can't get the TSB to come up when I go to the TSB search site. Also, would this be my responsibility to fix or is it Ford's? Les
I would think your truck is out of warrenty, but there is an emmission warrenty that goes to 100k I think. Anyway you might try to talk to the dealer and explain that it is either an emmision or a safety issue and you want it fixed, but I don't think so..good luck.

I have a 2000 ranger that has to have its IAC replaced every 6 months to a year. Cleaning the IAC doesn't do anything except waste your time. IACs are 35.00 if Borg Warner parts are bought at your local parts store.
One thing i noticed about the bad IAC's they are loaded with black carbon. I finally tore the upper intake off and hosed out both of the ports that the IAC connects to with TB cleaner. One was full of carbon. seems to have fixed the problem with causing the IACs to go bad. I wouldn't remove the intake unless you seem to be going through a lot of IACs
I own four fords and they all do the same thing. I wouldn't waste 35.00 for a new one when you will be doing it again!
Just unbolt it and get yourself some .99 carb cleaner clean it really well and bolt back on and check your intake vaccuum ports and do the same.
The plunger in there don't take much to stick and give you high idle. I have a turbo motor in my mustang and just wired a on and off switch when it's warmed up just shut it off. The IAC is mainly used for idle purposes anyways. I have never had a problem.
