I own a 1990 F150 with a 5.8L and E40D.
The problem is when put in reverse the engine stalls.when put in drive ,1 or 2 no problems but in reverse the idle drops sometimes recovering but normally stalls.
This has only just started during the last week.
It takes more pressure to reverse so it takes more torque from the engine ! Fuel & spark make torque ! Try that first, along with the basics like vacuum leaks.
