I have an exhaust leak. It seems like it is at the manifold but I can't find a leak. I did notice there is no donut or gasket where the exhaust pipe attaches to the manifold. Should there be a gasket of somekind?
Depends on the year late models didn't need one its was cast on the manifolds Early models neede the donut. some where around 1980 is when they started the late model design.
My 94 has a cone and cup type connection between the manifold and the Y pipe, no gasket. I have had a leak at that point. Looked like the Y Pipe cone melted a bit and warped which allowed a leak.
Dealer charges $600 to replace the Y Pipe, yeow, independents will cut it off and weld a new cone in for about $80. I stupidly let the dealer do it since I was hoping it would be a smog issue and covered under smog warranty, wrong and stupid me.
It is leaking again after maybe 30K miles, PITA. This time I think I'll go for stainless headers.
The Y-Pipe on my 94 F-250 was leaking when I bought it.I had a new end put on it,and it is leaking again. I was told that the right section of the pipe collects all the heat thats backed up from the converter, and it causes the pipe to get so hot it bends and leaks, especially in a hard pull.Mine did it when i was pulling my camp trailer up a hill.
I have an '84 F250 with a 351 in it, a 4 inch lift and 35' BFG mud terrains and its a true duel, but right now i have a stock muffler and 2' pipes, I want my truck to sound as good as it looks. I was thinking of putting 12' glasspcks on it with 3.5 inch echo tips. I have heard a friend of mines truck with the exact exhaust and it is the loudest I've ever heard, so I figure it will sound good on mine, what do yall think? I wanna keep it cheap. ARE GLASSPACKS THE RIGHT CHOICE?

If you do a lot of cross country driving, you are going to want quiet. Trust me, I once had glass packs etc and thought that rumble of power was cool. After a few hundred miles on the road, that rumble gets to be a head ache. A thousand mile trip can be grueling.
Go with a nice easy flowing exhaust with maybe a little more noise. I hear Flowmaster and several others have good systems. They can be expensive. Don't know if Thrush is still making glass packs, but they had a pretty good flowing pack way back that had a nice mellow sound on the long ones and a crackly sound on the shorties.
The glass packs are cheap and if you like loud they are usually pretty good. But they aren't always the best flowing, especially if you go cheap.
Your tolerance goes down as your age goes up, usually, even if your hearing goes down as you age.
