I'mmmmmm Back; Question regards tires

Yes, I'm back -- do please excuse my lengthy absence.
My question is: Ranch friend's '04 350 , 6.0L apparently has tires (standard to that truck), which are just for that truck. They (tires) are not working well on a fully operating ranch,((dirt, mud, hills, hawling cattle & horses) and with that said, they are looking for better tires. It appears that they cannot change to the tires/wheels used on their '04 7.3 350. Any suggestions ??

BTW:

Just A Thought...............on...............My Perceptions................

Where the heck have you been? I asked around about you but never got much of a response.

I am glad to see you back.

On the tires... If it is a dually with 16" rims, I highly recommend Michelin XPS Traction tires. They wear very well towing heavy and perform excellent in mud and snow. The have 40k miles on them now and are at 13/15 depth.

Guys, I don't know what is on the truck now; only that they came with the new truck (SRW). The cowboy had said that the tread just was not affective for ranch driving/towing. Should anyone out there have '04 350 , 6.0L. check it out.

My '04 supercab 4X4 came with the rugged trails, personally they looked like they had a crap pattern. So the first place the truck went was the tire shop for some BFG All Terrain's. The thing your buddy needs to worry about if it the tire has the correct load range call out 'D', 'E' whatever he requires for the hauling, towing etc he plans to do. I can not believe there is only 1 tire for that truck.
I put 295's under mine stock, and it is not an FX4, or have the heavy service springs. I get very slight rubbing when full lock left. They fill the wheel wells nicely, and have the width the truck should have had from the factory. I have had the BFG All Terrains on many differnt vehicles, they are a great all weather tire, are quiet on road and do well off road. The only down side may be extreme mudding, but if that is what you do you are not considering "all terrain" tires.

It was the "pattern" of the standard-installed" tires which raised issues; particularly when the dirt roads were wet -- they simply spinned. Unfortuneatly, can't go to over-size, due to the heavy weighted towing = horse, cattle, bulls.

I'll follow-up with the 295's All Terrain's. Thank you for the input.

If You Dont Want To Run The Large 295/75r16 Bfg's Try The 285/75r16's
Although They Are A Load Range "d". The Load Capacity Is Almost Identical To The Stock 265/75r16 Load Range "e" Tires. They Are Many More Choices Of Brands And Tread Designs In The 285's As Well....good Luck

I put BFG all terrains on my 04 and 03 and the wheels are lariat wheels from an 03 so they fit my 04, and I put my stock 04 whells on the 03 when I sold it. The SRW SD wheel bolt pattern, to my knowledge are all the same. I will appolgize in advance if that info is wrong.I have the 285's they dont rub at all and the wear great and are quiet on the road. Hope this helps.

Ok--my ignorance will now truly show.

From your comments, may I understand that the truck "04, 4x4 350, SWD came with 265/74r16, and that either 295s or 284s will fit in the tire wells, while also allowing for heavy towing (weight of the trailer & load). ?

If this is the case, it will be good news for these guys (Remember, they have ranch in the Piute Mountains near Bakersfield, CA )
The other truck they have is a '97 350 4x4 SWD, Standard shift, not knowing the stock tire size for that truck, would that tire size (wheel size) be the same ?? For some reason, I have the perception that the wheel size is different..

BTW, most appreciative of your feedback, you 'al.

Luke... I too have the same problem and we task the vehicle for the same thing. I have a 350 with 18" (Continental is the only one) tires and they are to be had no where else. You can't pull off the road to load the trailer cuz you may not get back on the road! Been to 3 different shops for balance and they still nearly shake the tobacco outta yer lip when ever you get over 65.
I have looked for replacements but that would entale new wheels and I don't want to do that either. Hopefully by the time the aire starts to show on these tires, someone else will come out with the 121+ 18" for replacement!

We'll wait together, but these tires, on the slightest of a moist dirt road -- God help you if it is an incline.
Let's keep this site informed on this issue-------and welcome aboard.

I've got the same truck with the 265/75 stock tires (04 cc,srw,lariat,fx4) and tow a 4 horse slant w/living quarters. (see gallery) With the LS rearend the bf goodrich tires have seemed to be ok. I now have 48k miles and need to change. Big O sells a terra grappler that looks to have a good tread pattern, load range e and a descent wear rating. Anyone know about them??
