My holley 600cfm 4160 carb only has one metering block on the primary side of the carb, but int he diagrams with the rebuild kit and almost all pics I have seen show a metering block on the secondary side as well, shoudl I have one on each side? Sorry I an new to carb setups, I am a EFI guy due to my age, hahaha but I am trying to learn how these things work for my 77 F250 with a 460 in it. I am in the process of rebuilding it now and powdercoating the carb as well, pics of that are coming soon.
The List number off the front of the choke tower will tell us if it should have a secondary metering block. Most vacuum secondary Holleys use a secondary metering plate, a small, thin plate that fits under the float bowl. It cannot be seen until you remove the sec float bowl.
4160 Refers to a family of Holley 4bbl carbs that used a metering block for the primary and a metering plate for the secondary.
4150 refers to the Holley 4bbl that use a metering block for the primary and secondary.
The advantage to having a metering block in the secondary is that you have jets that can be swapped to tune the secondary. You can't do that with the plate.
I took an 1850 (4160 series) and replaced the plate with a block. Then I replaced the 30cc accl pump with a 50cc pump and also added a quick change Vac diaphram spring housing. Now I am tuneing this combo to my specific engine/truck combo.
cool, thanks for the info Lee, maybe I'll do that int he future, I notice with the one metering block I only have one power valve so at least now I have a spare power valve with the rebuild kit
Good thing is I don't plan on doing too much tuning. SO the jets are the little screws with the holein the center on the metering block then? MY Holley Trick KIt did not come with new jets then.
460 if you look on the power valves you will see a number on them. My kit had two power valves but I only used one. Both power valves were different. One had a 30 on it the other had a 65 on it. These numbers refer to the amount of vacuum when they open. Post what numbers are on yours and someone will help you decide which one is right. I went with the 65 since that was close to the original.
actually I got 4 power valves with the kit, 2 were 65's and 2 were something else, larger power valves. I am suppose top use the 65 from what the manual says plus its identical to the one that was in there, the other set of power valves are a lot bigger, or deeper I should say, they have a deeper plastic part but same thread pattern.
I am surprised the kit doesn't come with different jets, as this seems most important due to weather conditions, I'll jave to check the kit again maybe they are in there and I just didn't see them, I haven't opened up every bag of parts yet, just ahve them all laid out.
