I finally got my stinkin' 5.0 efi fired up last night. This is a major milestone since I've been working on the wiring and plumbing for the last 6 weeks. Now I get to pull the motor back out so I can paint the frame. The fun never ends.
PS - open headers may cause perminant hearing loss and cause your neighbors to get very angry.
WOOOHOOO!!!! Aint it great!!!
My neighbors weren't to fond of the few trips I made around the block with open headers. I'm in the same spot you are. I just pulled the engine/trans so I could box and paint the frame. I did the last little bit of touch up on that last night. Now I need to make the engine pretty and then I can stuff the whole mess back in there.
Congratulations! I know exactly what a great motovation factor it is to have a running engine. I just wear earplugs when I move the truck and since the closest neighbor is over a mile away open headers aren't a problem.
svoom, Congratulations on the progress, I know it feels great to hear it run for the first time. If you can, I recommend you run it enough for break-in before you pull it.
My engine went south on the first rebuild after about an hour run time. I'm just glad that I hadn!t already finished the truck. I had it dyno tested and broke in the second time, just for piece of mind. Wayne
I think annoying the neighbors is an important part of the "starting it the first time" ritual. The joy you get out of hearing it fire and run that first time is MUCH [U] more important than any pitiful little complaint from the neighbors. Hee hee hee!
It is a real smile maker to have it fire up. I was even worse and didn't even have headers or exhaust manifolds on when I first fired the 460. 10 seconds of that was enough! Still took a week to get rid of the smile. It sure did make a mess inside the engine compartment thought. I won't do that again.
