Brake vibrations

I have recently replaced my rotors, drums, and pads on my 96 F-150 (2WD) because they were completely worn out and caused the truck to vibrate as if I was braking on gravel. I have replaced all these and the vibration is still there. I drive on some pretty smooth roads and when it comes to hitting the brakes it feels as if I am on a gravel road! Any ideas where to look? Thanks.

You didn't say whether you replaced your drums/rotors with new or used. If used they are going to have to be taken to a machine shop to be turned to bring them back to true.

Who would ever use used brake parts??? Everything is new and the vibration is the same as with the old worn out parts.

First, check all the steering/suspension components to elimenate that as a source of vibration while braking.A lot of you may say I'm stupid when I say this, but, new,out of the box rotors & drums should always be checked for run-out before placing on vehicle. If no dial indicator is available, simply have them turned, one pass through, with minimal material removed to verify they are are true.Allthough not common, I have come across out of round rotors/drums in the past, and, the old mechanics, which I am not, have always practiced trueing up new rotors/drums,right out the box straight to the lathe. You would figure that with today's advanced machining process's you would not have to even think of trueing up a new rotor/drum,but I too were surprised what a difference it makes when you check these things out.Caution, make sure the bearing cups are firmly seated in the rotor hub before you go too far.

Thanks for the info. Something else that came to mind when you mentioned suspension. Although I don't feel anything loose when I am driving I do hear plenty of popping sounds coming from the underside of the truck when turning. Sometimes the popping comes from the front, sometimes from under the back of the bed. Any possible relationship there? Thanks again.

K ,
Phillip is so right ...I just put new rotors and pads on my truck and the new ones were out of round almost as much as the old ones . The popping noises you hear are most likely the radius arm bushings or ball joints ? Ive also seen crossmember rivets , esp in the back, become rusted and loose . If you live in a climate with a lot of road salt in the winter this may be what your hearing ? You have to remember when you brake , you force a lot of the trucks weight to the front and anything that isnt doing its job properly is going to be a noticeable problem .
