Welcome to FTE! The 1948-1960 Forum is, of course, the best forum on FTE in our opinion. Ask plenty of questions and when you have enough posts in, you can use the forum search engine to look through old threads and find a real goldmine of information and opinions.
There are lots of folks with information, and plenty of them are willing to help you out. Some of them are even a bit witty, although most of us are just a bit twitty.
As far as the grain bed goes, seems to me that we talked that over a few times and the general consensus was that Ford usually farmed out custom beds and accessories. Most likely, your grain bed was manufactured by a company near the dealer that sold it. Somebody with more knowledge on this come on by and give us the real scoop on this.
I think you are right Earl. I saw a 48 Ford farm truck here in Oklahoma and the bed was built in Oklahoma City according to the manufacturers tag on the bed.
If it has the Ford script stamped into the back beam then it is a Ford part. Northern Classic Trucks makes reproduction beds for all size truck old Ford trucks. If it doesn't have the Ford script then is it probably made by an after market manufacturer.
what you have there was the optional grain bed ford put on the f1. also these trucks were equipped with a optional 4 speed tranny. there were 728 built in 1948 ,, you have a very rare bed that is sought after by collectors,, one other mention you could only get it in red.. also only with a 226 6 joe black
