Yesterday I was digging through my uncles barn and found a Ford engine block under some of his horse tack stuff. I put it on a dolly and cleaned it up and found the casting numbers D90E-0015-E3A. After doing some searching I guess the engine came out of a Torino or LTD II. However I am unsure if it is a 302 or 351. Is there a way to determine what size motor this is?

A 351 has around a 1" taller deck height and a wider intake. The d.h. should be 9.5" for a 1979 (D9) motor. A 351 is 21" wide and around 23.75" tall from the sump to the (what looks like) the top of the valve covers. Specs courtesy of the Ford Racing catalog.
You can also pull a valve cover and look for a 302 or 351 cast into the head.
i'll try to look for more numbers. The engine does not have the heads or intake. There is just the block and crank. There is some surface rust but i'm told that a machine shop could have it all cleaned up. Should there be more casting numbers located in the intake area that would say if its a 302 or 351?
The 351W block will have 3" diameter mains, where the 302 will have 2.25" mains. So if it's a bare block, just measure the journal holes for the crank with the main caps installed.
well I degreased and pressure washed the engine block this weekend. Still I could not find a cast to determine if it is a 351 or 302. I measured the bore diameter and got 4", then measured the cylinder lenths (top to bottom) and got 5". Any more ideas????
The easiest way to tell if it's a 351 or a 302 is if you can get a socket on the lower thermostat bolt, it's a 351, if you can't, it's a 302. The reason for this is the 1" or so taller deck height of the 351 moves the bottom bolt up from behind the water pump like it is on a 302.
The absolute, easiest, quickest way to tell the diff between a 302 and 351W is to check the distance between where the water pump bolts to the front of the block and the bottom of the head(or the top of the block)
On the 302 there is very little space between the inlet/outlet of the water pump and the bottom of the head.
