Guage advice needed

I just got a free 3-hole pillar pod for my truck today, and I just want to know if anyone has any advice on filling it. I'm planning on putting an engine temp guage in first, since the one in the dash cluster doesn't work most of the time anymore. I figure that installing a new one will be easier than chasing down the problem in the dash and fixing it. The only place I've found one so far is at Summit. Any other suggestions? Later, when I can spare the cash, I'd like to add boost and pyro guages. I've searched this forum and found good suggestions here for these. The truck is a '95 PSD 1-ton and I pull 16-20' stock trailers with horses fairly regularly, so it does a little bit of work. It's never really had any problems for me, though it pulls a little disappointingly off the line because of the 3.55 rear end...but that's another rabbit trail. Anyway, just wanted to know what the experts think!

Isspro black faced, white needles gauges match awesome, water temp, EGT, and boost gauge should run you $300 at the most, I ordered mine 4 months ago and I think thats what it cost.

heres a link to the website I got mine from, http://www.egauges.com/ISS_main.asp

and a link to the ones in my '96 so you can see an installed pic. http://community.webshots.com/photo/306602161/306613779hetvtA

on edit. I might still have the sales receipt from the above website, with part numbers for EVERTHING!!! ( tubing kit for boost, lead wire and thermocouple for pyro, and the gauges them self.) have to look tomorrow.

Everthing that 444dieselrod recommends except maybe trade that boost guage for a tranny temp guage? If choices must be made on what's most practical and limited to only three guages.

I agree with Kwik. If your towing, the tranny temp gauge is almost a requirement. I stuck the boost gauge in a snap on pod that attaches to the top of the steering column. You can get it from Autometer and other places fairly cheap.

Would the tranny temp guage matter so much in a standard? I'm probably exposing my ignorance, but I thought they were more necessary for p.o.s. automatics and I'll never own another one of those.

Manual tranny? Then I would probably go with the boost gauge - although I have heard of people who put tranny coolers and gauges on their manual trannies.

POS auto tranny? Yeah, I agree. I hate auto trannies. Hate, hate, hate. I bought my truck because it was a great deal on a very good truck - when I bought it, it had 89k and had NEVER been in for a warranty repair, and never been in a reportable accident.

I needed a truck, it was such a deal, I bought it.

It has a POS auto tranny - something I swore I would never buy again. Well, I spent a few hundred $$ on it right away (cooler, external filter, deep sump pan, shift kit, trans temp gauge). I still don't like it, but the truck works so well, and seems so reliable, I just can't justify selling it for an unknown quanitity.

As much as I hate auto trannies, I'd rather have a very good truck with an auto, then a mediocre (or worse) with the 6-speed.

If the auto tranny ever breaks, I'll swap it for a 6-speed.

Not really necessary in a standard, infact really wouldn't tell much of anything unless you like to slip the clutch alot.

Autometer makes some really nice gauges. I personally have the Ultra-lites enroute to my house as we speak. Through Ebay and Motorhaven I paid $260 for Tranny temp, 30 psi Boost, and Pyro all with hardware, and a matched color triple pillar mount, and that included shipping.

I'm just waiting for my Magnaflow SS 4'' to show up so that I can install it all in one fell swoop.

The tranny temp. gauge would be more useful with an
automatic.

It would be a nice addition to your signature if you mention that your running a standard.

Sorry, I guess I tend to try to forget that auto tranny's exist, especially for anything that's ever going to be hitched to a trailer. My truck, being a real truck, has the 5-speed. Just rebuilt over this past Christmas (damage done before I got the truck) and swapped out the dual-mass for a Luk solid flywheel.

Just realized I sounded a little harsh with the "real truck" thing. I have no problem with auto's...as long as I don't have to drive one!

i would prefer a stick for towing... but i don't mind the auto tranny... it does ok and it can do better... a gauge for it is really needed though if you're gonna tow, and i just got mine working... here are some nite pics of the gauges i just installed... they are dipricol and they look real good...

Are you a Texas AGGIE from Wyoming? Or a Wyoming AGGIE from Texas?
Either way, I'm sure you've had the pleasure of enjoying the fine traffic in Houston at one time or another. Your left leg will sure get a workout with a standard. I personally don't bad mouth either side of this debate......they both have their good and bad points.

Born/raised in Wyo, moved to Tx about 7 years ago to become an Aggie. Now I'm working in Wyo for another couple of months before I go back to Tx to finish my Master's. I think I qualify for dual-citizenship! And I usually avoid driving in Houston at all costs, no matter what I'm driving, but I've been in standards for so long I usually work an imaginary clutch even in an automatic. There's just not much in Houston that I need or want, so the other millions of folks can have it!

Thank y'all for all the good resources. I think I'm going to go with the ISS water temp guage, then add the matching boost and pyro a few paychecks down the road. No wonder I'm always broke! Oh well, the big Ford looks good and runs better, and my vehicles are always works in progress.

If you don't mind my asking, what's an "Aggie"? Agricultural engineer?
