Tow Mirror Position

For the guys that have tow mirrors that are extendable, where do you keep them positioned? Most I see are pushed all the way in, but I keep mine fully extended.

All the way in when not towing, all the way out when towing.

My truck is a year old, and the only time the mirrors have been extended was when it was new to see if they functioned correctly. Just recently, the passenger side mirror has started vibrating enough to make use very blury.

Is there any way to tighten the shafts back up?

I'd drive it back into the dealer. A year old truck still has bumper to bumper. Make them repair it.

I was planning on doing that, even though I have 33,000 miles on it. I was just wanting some info to be better planned when they try to say it is normal, and cannot be tightened.

To me, it is not normal as I have driven 32,500 miles with nary a vibration...and now this.
