Just got back from a trip, towing my 12K toy hauler. The entire way home, I had a massive head wind working against me. My max speed on level ground was 65 mph. One of the tanks of fuel, I only got 179 miles out of it for a whopping 5.9 mpg. UGLY LOL!
Headwind can raise havoc with any vehicles mileage. Its almost like carrying a double load in the back. The wind alone without a load will drop your mileage some. A cummins or a duramax will probably be the same. Hows the mileage normally without a load.
What toy hauler do you have? Nothing like pushing a bill board through the air... A nose cone might help if your not using a wedge front trailer to deflect wind.
Think the extra headwind would have given you some RAM AIR, and slightly more boost!! I did a motorhome trip back east and was hit by the most increadible cross winds.. White knuckles for hours!!

The trip back from the same place last year was 12 hours of 30+ miles an hour crosswinds. That trip was before the dually, so you can imagine how bad that was.
Motorhomes are the worst though, I will agree. On a trip in the inlaws motorhome, I had the steering wheel cranked so far to counter the wind, that I actually pulled over to make sure it was inded the wind and not a flat tire. I knew for sure as soon as I opened the door and the door just about came off the hinges.
