Talking Such a Deal I got!

So I called up a guy listing some Ford things on "craigslist", a local (or at least it used to be local) weblist that you can list all your stuff for sale. Kind of the biggest yard sale in the world. Anyway, I got a built up 351C (never fired up!) with Edelbrock intake, C4 tranny, new B&M torque converter, flexplate and 2 ton engine hoist (almost new!). All that for $1600. If I was to buy a rebuilt engine from AutoZone (interrupted hurl!), it would have cost that much by itself.

I guess I'm committed now. I have to rebuild this truck to what I dreamed up when I first bought it six years ago.

351, 4-barrel carb, AOD, lowered front and rear, power steering, power brakes, full interior re-do, A/C and some bed work that I'm keeping to myself for a while. It's gonna be in original Meadow Green, but in suede, with minimal chrome.

I can't hardly wait!

I've got a couple of transmissions for sale now... cheap. On craigslist, of course.

By the way... What is this smilie thing doing??? It looks bad to me.

Not bad at all. I would like to find a deal like that in few months as I progress on my F1. I hope I get as lucky as you. That is actually my ideal engine.

Red face

Here kitty kitty! That's cool! Here's an embarrasing question that I hate to ask... how do you visually tell a cleavland from a windsor? I havent gotten far enough on my truck to really begin looking yet. I heard that the 69 galaxie would be a nice donor for a Cleaveland , c-6 and good rear end.

The quickest way to tell the difference between a Cleveland and a Windsor is the valve covers. The windsor has a trapazoidal shaped cover with rounded corners. It's the same cover that a SBF uses (289/302). The Cleveland covers are unique and have a rectangular footprint and the stock ones have a raised end.

Cleveland heads also have a number cast into the upper left corner of the head at the valve cover corner. A "4" cast there means it's a "Boss" large port head (11.0:1 compression). No cast number or a "2" means its a 2V head (9.0:1 compression).

I run a Cleveland. A picture of it is in my gallery album "Randy's 56".

That Galaxie does sound like a good donor. I put the Edelbrock 4 barrel intake and 600 cfm carb on my 2V along with a mild cam. It's a daily driver with 300+ hp.

Wow! I'm gone for a day...

and look what happens to my thread.
Cool.
Additional ways to tell a Cleveland
1. The distributor goes through a hole in the casting in the stock intake manifold.
2. The housing for the water pump is integral with the block and protrudes about three inches from the face of the block.
3. Stock valve covers are not rectangular in cross-section, they have an angled top to clear the stock air cleaners as far as I can tell.

I'm also looking for a set of brush finish aluminum valve covers too. No chrome.

Nothing like the obvious, C valve covers have 8 bolts, Windsors have 6, even I can remember that, (Check my avatar!) Oh, yeah, Cleveland dist's come out of the block, not the intake

Fenders, it's definately a 50/50 show truck, 50 feet away at 50 miles per hour.
