Cracked pistons

Well everyone its been a long time coming. Truck went back in the shop Monday so they could pull the motor. The motor was pulled and they found two cracked pistons. Number 3 and 7 were the ones cracked. Talked to the FORD Rep and he said I was going to get a rebuilt motor. Not a new one. I left there told my attorney to send them the letter so he did now I have a truck in the shop with no motor and they will not touch it . I think this is going to get just a little messy. I will keep everyone posted as to how everything works out ..

Wish me luck...... Gona fight the BIG BOYS

What year truck? I would think if it's an 03 that's why Ford opted for a rebuild.

i wish you luck. but don't think you will get any where . warrenty engine's thats something i deal with every day. the only time we have to replace with brand new is if the car or truck has never been titled. i for one would rather have the rebuilt as to the extra stages they go though to be reused in rebuilding. ie magnafluxing, line boreing, plate boreing and honeing. more or less a blue printed rebuilt long block motor onto which they would transfer all the reuseable outside parts.
again best of luck .

The truck has an after market exhaust and a cool air intake thats all no computer. As of right now FORD will not touch it again. My attorney has gotten involved and it looks like its going to be very messy.

Don't panic about the rebuilt. I have had an engine replaced and it was a "crate" engine fresh off the assembly line. They called it a rebuil however. The build date on it was Nov 11/04 and I had it at my dealers on Nov 18/04. They bolt on all your '03 parts and use the '03 flashes etc. Haven't had a single problem since install 6500 miles ago. Just waiting to get 12,000 on it so my fuel economy starts picking up.

thank you for your post . i was not sure of fords use of motors. as i am more into vw, audi and gm. with vw they do have a rebuild program. but in many of the cases i see as the working shop forman . we will order a rebuilt and get the engine and find it's brand new in a renumbered box that states rebuilt part. this in some ways help to save the customer money as the import taxes are cheaper.
either way the steps taken to use a core in rebuilding are many more then brand new. the block is disassamembled cleaned, pressure tested for being porus, magnifluxed for cracks, d mains and cam bearings get line bored. cylinder walls get plate bored to the crank center line, plate honed, deck planned. rods are new or reconed, new pistons, rings and pins, new main, rod and camshaft bearings, crank shaft is magnifluxed and cut, every thing is rebalanced and then in many cases hand assembled. the same goes for the cylinder heads . new valves and springs.
how ford deals with the injectors and pump . i don't know and hope one of our ford line techs will chime in and help out with more up to date ford info.
i feel for our man and wish him a speedie return of his truck

Up date on my truck. As of now FORD is not going to touch it again. I will be picking it up on Tuesday ( in pieces) and my Attorney and them can work it out. It is a real pain in the *** to not have a truck but someone has to suffer and this time it is me. I know with all the documentation I have on the truck I will prevail. I have tried to talk to the dealer and FORD to get it taken care of but they both blame each other. I have 45 days left till we will have to file. So thet means they have 45 days to get it resolved . They wanted a fight now they got it and I promise you that they will not leave smileing. So if anyone wants to place anymore bets come on. Just remember I would like cash but a check will do just make them payable to me. LOL I will keep everyone posted. Food for thought MY truck has been in the shop for a total of 69 days so far and they haven`t been able to fix it . Think about it.

#1 barkeld...many good wishes for resolution.

I guess I have failed to ask (probably during my self imposed hiatus) where are you at in TX?

One question.... Why are you getting an attorney involved? Ford said they are replacing the engine under warranty correct? You were going to get "new"(reman) engine under warranty and that wasnt good enough? I know that we had our issues w/ reman old 7.3 and T444e's. It was a "hit and miss" deal with them. Sometimes the engine we would get would be worse than the engine we took out. I know International has a different company doing remans on the 6.0 (VT 365) and arent having any issues. The point is, is that you were going to get another engine under warranty and you wouldnt have to come out of pocket except maybe a small fee but no where near the cost of the engine or labor. Free of charge with a warranty. If the reman did blow, you would have gotten another one or even perhaps then a new one off the line( which you would wait quite awhile for). Sorry, im just trying to make some sense out of this.
