My hood is out almost 2 inches out from the fenders on the 54 F100 I am working on. I believe the hood is original and the fenders appear to be older fiberglass aftermarket.
I just ordered new hinges fro the hood and the aligment rods etc.
Any advice for me?
When you've been on our forum for a little while, you'll be able to do searches thru old threads to research stuff like this.
When you say "out" from the fenders, where is the gap? Along the hood sides? At the front edge?
Effie front clips are very adjustable for gaps and alignment. The entire front clip just hangs off the cab and is supported by the radiator support. Yours may be a little more trouble because the fit of fiberglass stuff is problematic. They need to make the glass part thicker than the metal for strength and that can cause some fit problems.
There was a pretty good thread a while back on disassembly and alignment of Effie front clips. Click on this:
Wow! 2 inches of overhang is a lot! If the gaps at the hood sides look OK, the new hinges just may be the answer. The adjustment for that gap is all in the hinge attachments to hood and to cab.
You could try removing the old hinges and laying the hood back in the hole to see what it all looks like. That will give you a good clue.
