I have recently gotten a 61 ford unibody. It has an old mud covered, locked up six and no tranny. I have also been given a mid 80 (not sure exactly) model 302 with an early 90 model, Mercury Tranny bolted with it. The people who gave it to me said that the tranny used to shift fine but now with the older motor it does not have enough vacuum or vacuum hookups and will not shift correctly. A Few questions here:
1) Will this 302, with it's mounts, mount right up to the chassis or will I need to get a kit like J.C. Whitney sells?
2) Does this transmission with not enough vacuum/hookups seem viable and if so what is the best fix?
3) Will the tranny mount out of the mercury do in the PU?
I have changed out motors and transmissions before but never with different ones than originally came in one. Please HELP!!!
