I am gettting ready to replace the front cab mounts and floor pans in a 1968 F100 and I would like to know what kind of experience people have had with the different makers of these replacement panels? I searched through many of the old posts and found quite a few different answers. I am aware that the the box type ones from J.C. Whitney are junk.
You can get both at the online parts store here, just click the link in the upper right hand corner of the main forums page. I have used the cab mounts from there, and they are decent, much thicker than most aftermarket pieces.
I have the box type from JC Whitney and they aren't junk. They work great. And since I'm not a welder all I had to do was slip them over the old mounts and bolt them in.
I think the concern is that if the original rusted metal isn't cut out, the rust will continue to migrate and will eventually (typically relatively quickly) get to where you just bolted/screwed the new mounts on. To make things worse, the additional layer just added to the potential for rust migration in that it will trap moisture/dirt/salt. No matter how much paint/rubber you coat it with, the unwelded joint will 'crack' those coatings and allow the contaminants under it.
As in any repair or with original construction, the conditions and frequency its driven will greatly influence the potential for future rust issues.
