Sometime in the future i want to put an extended cab ranger body on my 70 f-250. I was wondering if anybody has any experience with or heard about the rollcages sold in jegs. For a 10 pnt cage it is priced at 220$. Considering the price of steel and having to buy a tubing bender i think that this is a pretty decent deal. The only problem is that i'm not sure whether it will work in an extended cab ranger but i think i could make a single cab one work somehow. Any ideas?
I ve seen some cracks in the floor pan in supercab's. the roll bar should attach to the frame or with plates to the floor pan with plates under the floot attached to the frame. I 've seen roll bars in the pickup bed tear the sheetmetal and not give much protection.. the factory started calling them light bar's or sports bars, the lawyers did not want liability from roll overs when it didn't perforn like a nascar cage.
you can make the regular cab cage work or you can order a specialty cage from jegs with longer top hoop or bars (not sure which way they do it) and it doesn't cost much more but personally I would just run the regular cage . Another thought would be to buy a second over head bar or 2 point cage to put at the back of the cab, and just buy some pipe to connect it to the one right behind your seat, just a little added protection.
Well i would like to extend it so that two bars would go out the back of the cab and onto the framerails for more rigidity and a place to mount the rear radiator also.
Well mine goes to the back of the box just behind the rear wheels, but I don't mount my radiator to it. You will be suprised at how much that stiffens the frame, mine has zero flex between the cab, adn box.
I was also wondering about the placement of the steering wheel where it comes out of the firewall. I know that you have tractor pull headers too monster...did you have any problems with headers interfering with primaries.
yes I did, I had to move the lower end out the firewall about 3" down, and to the left with the cleveland, and with the big block I am gonna have to move it down another inch approx and I am gonna move the top end down about an inch to releive the angles in the joints for th eintermediate shaft.
