get a custom setup from a muffler shop. it will be less. catbacks really dont offer any performance gains. because your exhaust manifold and stock Y pipe with cats are the bottlneck. you should be able to get a new y pipe, with hi flow cat and flowmaster 40 series all in 3" for that same cost. then save up some for a good set of headers. if i was to go with a kit Bassini would be my only choice vs the custom work.
Kem has it right on the money. The manifolds and Y-pipe are the real restriction areas in exhaust flow. If you are looking for THE SOUND only, then a cat-back will help in that department. But for real improvements in exhaust flow the whole thing should be taken into consideration. Most every one here knows my vote on exhaust (Bassani) but there are many high quality components available out there. Take care when researching this stuff. Inexpensive usually means low quality. If the pricetag is cheap, its a pretty safe bet that the construction and design is too. (Headers are the worst for this problem.) thats not to say that you can't find good deals just be careful. The horror stories that float around here about aftermarket equipement that just doesn't fit or seal properly are too numerous to mention.
i didnt plan on getting headers. my cat back on my truck is getting rotten and just wanted to improve that part.
headers would be nice but i dont need em.they were a pain in the butt to put on my chevy. . i know that if i wanted better power that i would have to do the whole system, ie. intake and exhaust., but im not looking for that, just a replacement with better sound and maybe a bit more performance wouldnt hurt too.
