I need some help with converting a set of c8ve heads to an adjustable valvetrain. What would be the best way to do this? Would this be a simple stud and guidplate installation with hardened pushrods? Is any machining required? And what parts would i need to use?
The easiest way is to use a set of Crane Kool Nuts in place of the factory nuts. I have done this on two motors and it worked good. No other modifications are needed.
The Kool Nuts work with the stock rockers. To use roller rockers you will need guideplates and hardened pushrods. You should also take .230 off the stud boss. Alot of people don't think that it's neccesary to machine the stud boss, but I have always done it and haven't had any geometry problems. I watched a guy at the machine shop do it and it only took like 15 minutes per head.
If you do go this way be sure to check your pushrod length. I have always needed shorter pushrods.
The only other advice is buy your pushrods last. after you have checked the length with a length checker, that way you will be able to get the best rocker arm geometry
I did not do this and I ended up having to buy lash caps to bring my geometry into a acceptable range.
Ford Racing makes a set of adjustable roller rockers that fit on pedestal type heads. They are machined to fit down in the notch just like the regualr rockers and they do not need guideplates.
