Powder coating chrome...?

I saw an episode of Orange County Choppers where they powder coated the chrome wheels of the bike they were working on. I did not know you could paint chrome? Or maybe they stripped them first and then powder coated them, I don't know. Has anyone heard anything on this topic?

They probably stripped them first- you need some tooth to the surface, and chrome sure doesn't have that.

I have done it 2 ways: First time, sandblasted the parts first. Second time had the parts stripped of chrome at the platers. Good results both ways.

I know that powder coat is a charged particle application which is then baked on. What I am interested in, is if you can't paint over chrome, how is it that you can powder coat over it.....?
