No. But the ability to switch programs on the fly without pulling the chip is a great improvement. I know this next statement will cause a big stink but the chips do not GIVE you the power. The engine already has the power but the factory pcm is programed to limit the rpms to a certain point (to promote longer engine life, prevent warranty issues, etc). So the chips raise the rpm limit thereby increasing the HP but only at the high rpm limit. The power you had at 3000rpm before the chip is the same after the chip.

Actually, they do a lot more than raise the RPM limiters. They advance the ignition timing, change the ignition timing curve, change the fuel ratios, remove the torque reduction programmed in at take off and during gear shifts (where applicable), move shift points (computer controlled trannies) and increase shift firmness (computer controlled trannies).

Plus a host of other things as well...
