I'm thinking about putting duals on my 97 7.3 Powerstroke F250, and I was wondering how well (y-ed after the gutted cat) and no mufflers with 2.5inch pipe would work. I know 2.5inch pipe is pretty small, but on a stock motor, I was wondering if 2.5 inch duals would be fine or if I should go ahead and upgrade to 3 inch duals. Any suggestions you guys could give would be great! Thanks!
I would go with the dual 3" pipes - that will give you about 14 square inches of cross sectional area, compared to 12.5 from a single 4" pipe. Dual 2.5's will give you about 10 square inches. Since most people seem to prefer at least a 4 inch pipe, I wouldn't go any less than the 3"inch duals if dual exhaust is a "must have'.
I have duals on my 97' (picks in my gallary) If goes from the stock DP to a 3" pipe, then Y-ed into 2.5 i did it just because that was all that was laying around my friends shop when i stoped by..... sounds great and preforms pretty well.... but i'm gathering up parts to make a custom 5" dual system w/ a new DP, just because.... If i were u, i'd go at least 3.5" duals or 4".... 5 isn't nessicary.... but whose going to tell me to stop?

Do you have gauges? With the small diameter exhaust what are your temp readings
Look in my gallery of pics, both trucks have a good pic of the Y after the missing cat.
The '97 had 2.5", going to the side pipes, then I picked up a stick of 3" and I noticed no difference in temps when I had that put on. the real restiction is the stock DP. get rid of that and get a 3"-3.5"-4" and you'll be good to rock.
On edit. Robbgt has since sold his truck and not here much any more.
