Hi -
I am experiencing weird behavior out of my truck. It's hard to describe, even. It seems like it idles weird (almost lopes like it is missing, then straightens up), and seems to "wake up" when I hit the accelerator sometimes, like the engine went into a "sleep" mode. It's been acting weird for a little while, but it seems to be getting more frequent. I changed out the CPS to see if that was the problem, but apparently it wasn't. Also, new fuel filter.
Anyone out there had this kind of thing happen before?
No codes are being thrown. I just got back in from a short drive, and another symptom that is happening is that the engine (when I start to hit the accelerator) sometimes seems like someone turned the key off for a half second (the engine dosen't die, but it misses totally then resynchronizes). The idle also seems to "hunt" for the right RPM, sometimes above the usual RPM, then sometimes below. It almost seems as if the truck is "dizzy". I just don't want to start replacing part after part in search of the problem. Already replaced CPS..
burnt plugs or gaskets or uvc's. change oil, diesel kleen and maybe throw a hpx mod on there. if you got 250k on the clock and stock injectors. give bean a call for some serious hp and cheaper than new stock injectors.
So far, so good. I have put about 350 miles or so on, and the engine is smooth as silk. Wish I would have tried this before replacing the CPS sensor and looking into several other things.. I guess this is all part of the learning curve with these engines.
Now, if we can just get the price of diesel down to an affordable level.....
ICP is an injection control pressure sensor. It's up on the driver's side top of the engine under the fuel filter housing cover. (The large plastic cover that usually says Powerstroke on it.)
I think there's alot of 7.3s with that little quirk.........and people are just letting it go. I've got the same problem.....but wasn't able to pinpoint it until I installed the 10k MOD. Then I could hear what it sounds like when changes were made to the sensor value. I don't think it is a serious problem.......just something that happens after the sensor gets some age on it.
