VW Problems (capt chas?)

My wife has a 2003 VW New Beetle Convertable, this car has had problems since day 1. The latest thing is the headlights went out while driving cross country. We brought it into the dealership, they told us the headlight assembly was broken and needed to be replaced to the tune of over $1000. When we went to pick up the car, the driver's side headlight assembly was hanging out of the car, and they told us we brought it in like that, and somebody else broke it. VW's home office is being no help on this, they just parrot what the dealership says. As far as I know, that headlight assembly has never been out of the car. It has had the airbag sensor replaced, I don't know if the headlight has to be removed to replace that, but otherwise, the local dealership here is the only one that touched the headlights. Is there another step I can take within VW for this, or do I have to just get a lawyer and go after them for it? I'm definetely not paying a grand to fix this thing, especially when it's under warranty and they broke it.

I would start by writing a letter to VW outlining everyone of your issues you have had with the car (and them).
If they don't repond in a positive manner (i.e. pay for the repairs) then maybe think about the getting a lawyer.
