My 51' F3

I have been about to post questions a couple of times but as I dig around in here they keep getting answered. So I figure I would just introduce you to my new truck.

It's a 1951 Ford F3 with a flathead V8 in pretty good condition. Has some monor rust in the usual places. It runs nice and has a 4 speed transmission. It is pretty much in original condition without any modern upgrades which Is how I plan to keep it.

If I had a gripe it would be in the gearing. It feels like it has 2 granny gears for first and second and it is sceaming at 45mph in 4th gear.

I'm sure I'll be talking to youall soon.
Jon

Hey Jon, put a couple thousand pounds of lumber in the back, those gears will seem "just right"!! Show us some pictures when you get a chance. Is it a flatbed or stepside?

It's a stepside. has a steel plate dropped in over the rotted wood. It also has a hole in the drivers side rear fender that continues through the bed, probably for an aux gastank that is nolonger there. I'm going to try and repair this and the other rust spots by welding in new metal. I am a pretty good welder and have gas, stick and mig welders but have never performed body repair before. I have cut out bad spots in tractor rims and welded new parts in from other donor rims.

It's in good enough condition to drive for a while as it is so I can get a better feeling for where I need to start.

As for pix, I will have some to show you soon of this truck and of my lawn art. In my back yard I have dad's old 49' F? Big dual wheeled truck that the frame was cut, lengthened and a well driller bolted on the back, great truck but soooo far gone I can't imagine bringing it back to life.
