Steering column help.

Hey guys! First time posting! I have a 1968 F-100 Ranger with a 390. I am in the final stages of a disk brake conversion from a 1977 F-100. I installed new polyurethane bushings,(radius and pivot) and Gabriel high pressure gas shocks. I also had to use the power steering gearbox because my old Bendix box was worn out. The gearbox would not bolt on without some grinding on the motor stand, but I got it to fit. All that is left is to connect and bleed the brake lines and get it aligned. The question that I have is this: How hard is it to swap the steering rod out of the 1977, which is the correct length, into the 1968 steering column which is now too long to use? I would really like to put a tilt steering column in, but I have not been able to find one in South Carolina for a reasonable price. My 1968 column is in great shape and the 1977 column is somewhat worn. I would greatly appreciate anyone's help on how I can do this or any information on a tilt column. Thanks for your help.

WEM, Welcome to FTE The Best truck show on the net.

Look for your tilt in 78 & 9 Lariats, & Broncos. A van column from further years will work but you will have to take 6 1/2" out of the length.

right on^^^^^ the van column will be your best bet as they are the MOST abundant (atleast around here) any muffler shop in your local area should be able to re weld any steering shaft that you have cut and prepped to the size you want.

Where are you in SC? I still call it home, and am working on getting back to Aiken.
Tilt will be an issue. You'll have to find one from a '78 - '79. Supposedly they were available earlier, but I don't know that of my own knowledge. As for using non-tilt parts on a tilt column, I don't think anything will interchange.

For a bolt-in regular column, look for a '70 - '72 truck with power steering. Bendix was phased out, so you should have no problem finding one with the Saginaw steering.

For the engine mount, I have one for your FE and Saginaw power steering. Yours is just fine, unless you race or mud bog it, but if you want a factory one, let me know if you want it.
