Tacson, the heat gun is just my old heat shrink gun that is like a hair dryer but heavy duty used in industrial trades. It will get extra hot and blows lots of air and has a cool setting to stop the flow of the mastic from airport lighting leads. Anywho, I used it on the medium setting 160 Degree and set it pointing to the floorboard until the temp measured 135 d, and the inside floorboard was at 132 d. After the Lizardskin was cured the same test revealed a drop of 28-31 d. I did however blister the nice paint job under the floor, but I was just to curious to see if the marketing info was just more billshart and fancy words. Nice proof for a change. I did everything, 3 heavy coats on the roof, 2 heavy in doors, 3 heavy on floors and firewall with extra between the rails where the pipes and muffs would be. All inside by the way.

Bobby, I thought I would need this on my forays to N.M. where I visit often since seems warmer there to me and this will keep me happier on hot days. I have pics of every inch of the project, but don't put all in gallery to save viewers load times. I can send you a entire file on disc if needed.

Tacson, by the way, this stuff can be sprayed right over any leftover residue you may have which will save you a lot of time and labor. Just remove any loose stuff.

El Cabron: I'm off to the Lizard Skin store after reading your post. My problem has never been noise, it's the heat. Even with the fire wall sealed, insulated and padded
I got one HOT truck. Of course thes 100 degree plus days don't help much either.
Thanks for the post. Don

El Cabron,

Do you think it will adhere even over 3M 8090 adhesive residue. I think I can get my insulation up but I am worried about the residue from the adhesive. I would be interested in buying a disc from showing this install. Thanks Donald Walker

Tacson, I shot pics of the b4 and after install, not a Niolon or Earl type quality mind you, so there really is no application disc per se'. The pis disc is of the entire project and body work up to this point. You can still have one if you need to look. I did however, out of curiosity coat some paper, and some masking, and some electrical tape along witl painted metal and un-painted metal. It sticks good to all except the elect tape. You may asume that is a latex paint would stick, then this will probably stick. These test were non scientific of course and the factory makes no such claim. The prep reads "painted or primed surfaces" , I did notice that it stuck real well lto the seam sealer that I was not about to pull out and it was not painted.
Don, I believe it would work wonders to help control heat transfer from drive train and heat gain from sun and ambient. I will re-test after the Mid50 kit goes in. I overkill rather then underkill. I am going for Lincoln ride and comfort.

El Cabron,
I appreciate the info and the offer. I migth take you up on it when I get a little further along in my processes. Right now I'm in the gathering info stage as far as bodywork, insulation, etc.
I think you might have us beat up there in Denver this year, seems like I saw that it hit 107 there a few weeks ago...ugh. I think we've only been over 100 a few times this year.
If you're ever down in the Albuqerque area and have time to kill drop me a line, I'll buy you a beer or other frosty beverage and we can do some bench racing.

Lizard Skin alternative

I used CoolCar Ceramic. Same as lizard skin except for the color. The best part is it is about half the price of Lizard skin.

Dongc1, man, is'nt that always the case. What color is Coolcar ???

Bobby, We hit a new heat record since 1934. The highest ( 107) the most days in a month, and the driest. I've had cooler days in Wagon Mound. I go to Alb on a regular basis and normally stay in Tanowan but since I do not golf, I hang out down in the valley or at Tingley with the riff raff. You can find me at Charritos an Central in the eves or at Duran's drugstore for breakfast. I cruie Rio Grand to Rancho all the time, so a cold one is a must. I will expect you to make good on the offer pal as BR is my 2nd favorite pastime. Gavin

Good topic. Just went through this with my wifes mustang and well be doing this sometime next spring with the 56.

All of these product are design to address different problems. And one by itself will not answer or address all problems. Other than wind most interior noise is caused by body panels vibrating and tire noise. To eliminate tire noise either find a quiter tire or add any type of insulation. But to eliminate body panel noise you need to add mass.

Dynamat and product like this are best, but you add weight. Don't be fooled by products like Peel and Stick. They have half the mass of Dynamat and you get about half the performance. One thing that does work is 2 layers of Peel and Stick. Its still cheaper than Dynamat it just take twice as long to install.

Concerning coveravge more is better. The goal is to get the whole area resonating at one frequence. Pro's will do 2, sometimes more layers of Dynamat for highend audio setups. And they cover everything. The down side to all of this is wieght. But you do get a big improvement just by puting it on the larger panels.

For the 56 I'll be doing LizardSkin, followed by Dynamat and finish of with a juke pad. If ever been in a panel van or truck you know how loud the inside is.
Remember you can paint over LizardSkin so on areas that are not important, the backside or fenders etc, it will also help reduce overall noise.

I have been using a product called Thermwell Frost King Duct Insulation for a long time. It is self-adhesive, roughtly 1/4 inch thick and seems to do the job. I attach it to the back cab wall in the Rangers and it seems to make a difference. I noticed recently that Home Depot has it available on-line. They do not seem to have it on hand in the retail store.

Check this out, http://www.metalshield.com/index.html. I wonder how this compares to Lizard Skin and Cool car? It's talked about on school bus conversion forum. It doesn't have a cool name like the other products, though. It's not like anyone's gonna see it.
