Let's talk about sound deadeners
Peal and Seal is definitely not the same product as Dynamat, eDead, Brown Bread, or any of the better audio products. Be nice to think I got $4 worth for a buck, but that isn't how it is. The audio products are designed to deaden the sheetmetal rattles emitted by high perf speakers. Which few of you have. In that application, I know for sure that Peal and Seal is inferior unless you do multiple layers, and the cost savings goes out the window. Not to mention the stuff is quite heavy. Who wants to add 100 pounds of tar weight to their truck? You'll have to run a 302 like Bill and I if you get carried away with the extra weight.
My Peal and Seal stopped the rattles, squeaks and road noise in its tracks. Dynamat would be better, but I can't hear any noise with Peal and Seal so what's the point? I'll waste the truck budget on something else.
Deadeners will NOT cure, wind noise coming through bad door seals. It also won't cure 2 chamber flowmasters when the windows are down. Gotta look at the whole sound picture.
I filled cracks (especially in the panel ceiling and sides) with that expandable foam spray first, then applied the mat with 3M adhesive, and after 7+ years has not worked loose, no negatives, etc. at all, as it should.
I probably should have used some tar type deadener for the large panels in the panel
hey...same word..I'm on to something..
but I believe with the expandable foam in the cracks and solid coverage of material I think the affair barely fared fairly well overall. No more attempts to rhyme,
Paul
It just occurred to me your handle would be quite appropriate for a Rap Star. So busta rime here anytime you like. You suck at it, but that's OK.
Back to the topic. Total coverage is not needed for our purpose. Throw a few strips under the carpet and behind the kick panels. Stuff works like a heat sink and sucks the rattle out.
If than tinnie sound has got you down, just take U-self for a ride to town ...............
'fenders say Lowes is your low dollar bet, jus lay your twelve fiddy down, and U-B set ..................

What would ya think
about extream dynamat everywhere (floor, firewall, back, and inner door skins under the door panels ) except the overhead. Then put the kit from Quiet Ride, that is a fiber backed with alum sheet over the dynamat and in the overhead. That is where I am headed. I wanted to eliminate all road noise and wind noise. I want to get it quiet enough to be enjoyable on a long distance.
personally I plan to use only Ford sound deadening ... oh wait ?? I think I'm on the wrong thread
john
sorry
I couldn't help it... fenders told me to do it !! honest !!!

Don't be trying to squelch my creativity.
I was looking into the sound deadening products & decided that I didn't want to pay the $$$$ for the professional applications. Sooo I went to Home Depot, noted that the peel & seal is a butyl tape made by Protecto Wrap. Called those guys up, explained what I wanted to do & the salesman suggested a product that they have for sound deadening under tiles in a home. It uses the same butyl tape plus has a sound deadener attached. If I remember right, Home Depot would special order it for around $120 for a 100' roll x 30" or so (all measurements approximate, cause I had too much fun in the 70's & can't remember stuff too well anymore - LOL). They also recommended using a primer first, which was another $20. I am not at that stage in my truck yet, so I haven't ordered it. I have 3 vehicles that need the sound deadening, so I'm gonna order a roll when I get ready to go & hit them all. If anyone is interested, here's the website for the stuff: http://www.protectowrap.com/cat_floor_sound.php

Potential adhesion issues, and ability to make the many contours are what separate the good from the bad. Try some on a vertical curved surface, on a hot surface, and check on it when it gets cold out to see if it's staying put. The above problems are what I constantly read about this or that brand not cutting it on the audio forums I frequent. The fact that your product requires a primer to stay put on a flat surface, under flooring raises an eyebrow. Let us know, cause the price is sure right.
Way past fine is what I need. Long road trips it is the noise and viberation that causes fatigue, within reason. Now the real reason is if the girls find out what we spend on the trucks
, I want a quiet place to go.
