Missing vacuum hose?

I just replaced my valve cover gaskets. I won't go into all the difficulties and the resulting colorful language encountered here. The thing is that when I put everything back together, there seems to be an extra vacuum fitting on the "tee" at the back of the intake manifold. I don't know if I missed something, or whether its always been like that. I know theres one plastic pipe going to the transmission, one large rubber hose going to the brake booster, the pvc valve, a little small plastic pipe that runs back around up to a sensor near the thermostat, and then this extra one. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

Could there have been a cap on it?

On the 4.0L, there are usually one or two "open" ports on the tree that should have caps on them.

I'm sorry I left that out. Its a '91 4.0L auto. I was changing the valve cover gaskets, because they leaked all over the place. I also changed the spark plugs and wires with autolite double platinum plugs and motorcraft wires while I was in there. I think that open vacuum port went to those little yellow and black hoses at the blower motor, but I'm not sure. Anyway, it runs like crap now. I'm really depressed, because it ran great before, and now I think I've really screwed it up. I was afraid I might miss something considering all the stuff you have to take off to get in there. I'm sure its just a missing hose or connector, but I'm clueless right now. Any help would be appreciated. By running like crap I mean it idles ok in park, but runs rough when you accelerate, when its idling in drive, or anytime it has a load on the engine.
One more thing: the battery light is on.

Well I have solved the problem. After reading the "Van Stalling" post, I thought I should check the spark plug wires again. Sure enough, I got two of them crossed! Now I feel like an idiot. But I'm so gald its running again that I don't care if I'm an idiot!

Don't feel bad. We've all done that once or twice. You're right, there is a lot to remove in order to do even the simplest task. These engineers weren't DIY'ers for sure.

Now that makes two of us. I have done that at least a couple of times. It's so easy to cross them wires

I fell into this trap once when replacing the distributor cap. It was one of those things that just could not go wrong. I took the old cap of, shoved it to the towards the front of the vehicle, put the new cap on and then moved each plug wire one by one.........and I still got two of them crossed. You figure......

So did I. I even applied the little number labels, and still had trouble counting to six. I think it would be easier if you didn't have to install 6 plugs from 4 different places.

I hate to tell you but anything built from the early 80s on is almost impossible to work on without colorfull language.

Woe is me

I think its a miracle I managed to get everything back in the right place. I mean to change the valve cover gaskets, you gotta take of the entire air cleaner, the AC condenser, the alternator, the upper intake manifold, millions of hoses and wires, just to do a simple little job. Now I see why some people on here were saying they had quotes of $500 and $700 to do this "little" job.
In the process, I think I disturbed the alternator connections. The battery wasn't charging. Found out the wire assembly from the alt. to the main wiring harness was all green and corroded. I cleaned it as well as I could, but I don't know how well that will work down the road.
If I keep this up, one of these days I'll have a completely restored classic Aerostar "antique."
Think I'll head down to the hardware store and get one of those "For Sale" signs...
