Matt ,
Is the noise constant , in 2 or 4 wheel ? Have you pulled the wheels off and had a look ? Ive heard a lot of strange noises from the wheels but a whining noise is unusual .

Could it be that your brake pads are deformed? I know that if you tow large loads for long periods of time, that it can warp your pads. My dad's F250 Diesel (6.9, with a C6) did this when towing 11 tons of hay, and it made a whining noise too. I don't know if this makes any differance at all but it's a 4X4 too.
My 96 F150 4x4 right front wheel is whining as well. Sounds like the seal is dry haven't got that far yet. Having problems with my autolocking hubs and plan to replace them with manuals when the parts come in. Got the hub all the way down to the spindle nut (need a ford tool to get any further). I am pretty sure its coming from the inside of the hub. Took the brakes off the rotor and that didn't stop it so I have ruled out the brakes for mine. Let me know what you find.

what kind of ford tool do you need? my 92 was making a whining/howling noise, swapped out the wheel bearings (factory ones still looked good) the noise stopped. didn't need any special tools.
You just need the big-a$$ spindle nut socket, which you can get at any auto-parts store. As far as whining, bearings or a dragging brake pad would be my guess (not that those haven't already been mentioned...
The noise has stopped for now. All I did was lock the hubs in and then unlocked them. So I guess she just didn't catch the first time. Thanks for the help. Now I need new brakes because the ones I have now are squealing. Also I'm looking into putting a bed liner on my truck and was wondering if you've heard anything about Herculiner. Your comments are always appreciated.
